The National Board of Revenue has started organising the VAT Week 2016 on 9th December. A seven-day-long national VAT week until 15th December has started off on December 9. In observance of the week, a colourful rally has taken out from the NBR’s Segunbagicha office premises on Friday morning.
As part of the programme, the NBR has observed VAT (Value added Tax) Day on December 10. It has also honoured the best VAT payers at a programme on December 11 at NBR’s Agargaon Bhaban. On the occasion, the NBR has honoured 9 top VAT collecting businesses at national and 124 at district levels.
In this regard, Nojibur Rahman said that the NBR has also taken programmes such as publication of supplementary in national dailies and holding talk-shows in TVs to create awareness among the people about VAT.
Dhaka’s important buildings have been decorated with posters, stickers, billboards, and festoons. Besides, SMS has also sent to the people highlighting the importance of the payment of VAT.
Earlier, the NBR observed the Income Tax Week 2016 on November 24-30 for the first time in the country. The revenue board is aiming to run a campaign across the country to popularise the consumer tax, known as VAT.
Value-Added Tax week starts from today aiming to create awareness among consumers about payment of the tax while purchasing VAT applicable goods and services and businesses to properly deposit it to the government exchequer.
The tax authority is planning to start VAT fair from January next after getting a huge response of taxpayers at weeklong income tax fair held in November. On this occasion of VAT day, NBR had launched a call centre with a dedicated number for replying the queries of people on VAT.
